About
When Fred joins Angel Investigations in Season Three, Wesley soon falls for her. He never really acts on it, knowing that Fred is still fragile and confused from living in Pylea for five years, hunted and scared. Under a mystical influence, his feelings for her push him to nearly kill her and he decides to stay away from her a little, fearing he will hurt her.
Despite sharing a deep friendship, Fred choses to enter a relationship with Gunn. Wesley accepts this, despite being deeply hurt - wishing for her to be happy.
When Wesley takes Connor and betrays the gang, the one he remains the most loyal to is Fred, coming to her rescue when needed.
In Season Four, Wesley slowly makes his way back into the gnag after saving Angel. But he is a lot darker and often clashes with Gunn over Fred, no longer accepting to stand in shadow and trying to win her over.
When Fred plots to kill the man who sent her to Pylea, she turns to Wesley, knowing that he will help her - no questions asked. Gunn steps in and prevents her from killing the professor by snapping his neck himself. This ends up pulling Gunn and Fred apart and bringing her closer to Wesley.
As the Apocalyses nears, Fred and Gunn's relationship is almost at breaking point, and Wesleys takes his chance and kisses Fred. Gunn walks in on them and ends up breaking up with Fred because it's no longer working between them. But Fred is shocked to learn that Wesley had an affair with Lilah.
In Season Five, Fred & Wes join Wolfram & Hart and some of their darker memories are altered. Wesley tries to get closer to Fred, but soon realises she likes one of her co-workers - Knox. Like with Gunn, Wesley seems to accept that Fred does not love him.
When a cyborg posing as Wesley's father arrives at W&H and threatens Fred's life, Wesley doesn't even flinch and kills what he thought was his father. After this, Fred realises just how much Wesley loves her and how strong their relationship is. She tries to make him understand on several occasions, but he notices nothing - believing firmly that things will never change.
In Smile Time, Fred finally makes her feelings clear to him by kissing him. But their happiness is short-lived, as Fred receives a mysterious sarcophagus. Curious, she touches it and a mist of dust hits her. She soon becomes sick and no one can figure out why. In fact, the sarcophagus contained the essense of an ancient demon, Illyria, and by touching it, Fred released it, allowing it to infect her. As the gang frantically searches for a way to save her, Illyria slowly burns up Fred's essence, taking over her body to make it it's shell.
Fred dies in Wesley's arms and Illyria comes back to life, bearing her appearance. Heartbroken, Wesley falls into a dark spiral - trying to bring Fred back, kill Illyria, murdering Knox and even stabbing Gunn after discovering his involvement in bringing Illyria's sarcophagus to W&H.
Realising that Fred is gone, that her soul and essences were entirely consumed by Illyria, Wesley is completely broken. He spends his time drinking and researching on Illyria. He agrees to help her adjust to this new world, holding on to the only part of Fred he has left.
In the series final, Wesley takes on the powerful sorcerer Cyvus Vail, but is no match for him. As he is mortally wounded, Illyria arrives - concerned for his well-being and offeres to assume Fred's form to confort the dying Wesley. He agrees and dies in her arms, professing his love for Fred.
